History: MLS (Major League Soccer) was founded in 1996. Dallas was one of the 10 teams to begin play in the inaugural year - 1996.
Then known as the "Dallas Burn", they played in the historic Cotton Bowl stadium, host stadium for the 1994 World Cup. In 1997, Dallas won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. In 2002 Lamar Hunt's company (HSG) bought the Dallas team and renamed them "FC Dallas" and began building state of the art soccer stadium with a seating capacity of 21,000.
n the 2006 season, FC Dallas won the Western Division of MLS - topping the Western Division table for all but 4 days of the entire season, and missing out on the Supporter's Shield by 1 point to be top of the final league standings.
The 2007 season will see FC Dallas competing once again for coveted treble: Supporter's Shield, US Open Cup, and the MLS Cup. Additionally, FC Dallas is one of 4 MLS teams that will be playing in SuperLiga.
