History: In 2010, Club Deprotivo Marathon become the first team in Honduras to own and play in it's own stadium when the team moved to the 15,000 seat Estadio Yankel Rosenthal.
Marathon's derby matches with cross town rivals are commonly referred to as El Classico Nacional.
Marathon has many nicknames refering to their green colored uniforms: El Monstruo Verde, Los Panzas Verdes, Verdolagas, Esmeraldas and Sinfonia Verde.

History: The club was originally based in San Pedro Sula, where it began as a recreational club for the workers of an automotive shop Parrillas One. The team eventually joined the Liga Comercial Emin Abufelle, an amateur league for company teams in the country.
In 2000, the club entered the professional club landscape when it purchased a spot in the second division. The club has won 3 second division titles and eventually earned promotion to the top flight Liga National for the 2013/14 season.
The club moved from San Pedro Sula to the city of Tela and Estadio Alfredo León Gómez, in 2013.
