History:
Founded in 1905, the club plays its home matches at the Stade l'Abb�-Deschamps in Auxerre, situated on the banks of the Yonne in Burgundy. The club has achieved both European and domestic success, an unusual feat for a club from a town with a population under 40,000. Guy Roux, the club's longtime manager was principally responsible for the club's rise to prominence, having helped Auxerre rise through every division of French football, beginning with his appointment in 1961. Roux retired at the end of the 2004-2005 season. Under Roux, Auxerre first achieved promotion to Ligue 1 in 1980, and won the French championship, its in 1996.
Jacques Santini replaced Roux as the club's current manager, but has since been replaced by Jean Fernandez.

Founded in 1881 as Omnisport Club, Bordeaux is one of France's most historic and successful clubs, having won French first division titles in 1950, 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1999. Le Mans UC72 was founded in 1985 as the result of a merger between the clubs USM and SOM , having previously assumed the name Le Mans Union Club 72 since its original foundation in 1902. In the pre-World War I years, the earlier club was a prominent force on the French football scene. Le Mans was promoted to Ligue 1 for the 2005-06 season. Its current manager is Frédéric Hantz.

Racing Club de Lens plays in the northern French city of Lens. Its nickname, Les Sang et Or (literally, 'blood and gold'), is derived from its traditional colors of red and gold. The club was founded in 1905 as Racing Club Lensois, but was not officially registered until 1906 as Racing Club de Lens. The club is noted for its strong support across Northern France. RC Lens's average home attendance ranks fourth of all clubs in France's top flight, surpassed only by Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais.
